I don’t buy into red pill ideology because at its core it’s just gender essentialism twisted to support hierarchies and inequality. A lot of their claims go like: “Women are naturally hypergamous, so men have to be the ones with status, money, and power if they want a relationship.” Or “Men are biologically wired to spread their seed, so you can’t expect loyalty the same way you do from women.” You’ll also see stuff like “Women are ruled by emotions, men by logic,” or “If you’re not high-status, women will never respect you.”
That’s the trap of gender essentialism, taking a behavior, slapping a “biology” label on it, and acting like it’s inevitable. Sure, there may be evolutionary factors at play, but pretending that explains everything ignores how much culture, upbringing, and social norms shape us. A guy raised in a community that values cooperation and equality is going to act differently than one raised to believe “real men” dominate. A woman who’s told from childhood that her worth comes from beauty and marriage prospects is going to internalize that, even if it’s not “hardwired.”
The problem is these “truths” aren’t neutral. They’re almost always used to justify hierarchies. If you believe “women are naturally hypergamous,” then it becomes “natural” that men should chase power and wealth, and women should just accept dependency. If you believe “men are naturally more logical and women more emotional,” then suddenly it feels “natural” that men should lead and women should follow.
That’s why I think gender essentialism is dangerous, not because biology doesn’t matter at all, but because these oversimplifications almost always end up being weaponized to keep one group on top and the other in a subordinate role. And when you deny the role of socialization, you erase the possibility of change. If “men are just like this” and “women are just like that,” then inequality stops being a social problem we can fix, and starts being a “truth of nature” we’re forced to live with.
That’s why I can’t take the red pill seriously. It pretends to be about facing reality, but really it’s just defending old hierarchies by calling them biology.
