I went through something si.ilar myself. These problems are common, and it is because there is a stigma against being a man. God work with your friend. I pray for him and all other men who are falsely accused.

I'll watch it. I think it's of great importance that these stories are told.

I used to work for a manager who was one of the most soft spoken, kind and generous people i've ever known and that is very unusual for the harsh factory environment we worked in. On quieter days we sometimes worked side by side and talked, things like the days news, sports, music, cars, and the like. One day we were talking and I asked a question about his personal life which prompted him to tell me of an incident in the early 2000s (some 15 years prior) when he and a friend were falsely accused of a sex crime.

Due to the fact he and his accuser lived in a very small town he remained imprisoned on remand for almost a year waiting for trial.

During that time he lost his profitable business, his relationship with a fiancee, his house, and his mother died. Perhaps worse than all that he explained to me how he had become entirely disillusioned. That he had always wanted to have a family, a wife and children, and on the eve of that happening it was cruelly taken from him. He told me he had never truly recovered himself so marriage and children never happened for him. I suspect that his drive to attain financial success was also hampered beyond losing his business.

He told me that for months in prison he refused all offers to settle from the prosecution because he wanted his day in court to prove his innocence. When the prosecution received evidence the defence had uncovered shortly before the trial the case collapsed and they dropped the charges against both men. He never got his day in court and was bitterly disappointed that even that had been taken from him.

It turned out his friend had previously had a casual and consensual relationship with the accuser. He had used my colleague as a false excuse to reject the scorned accuser, saying that they were to be hanging out on the night the accuser had wanted him to meet with her. She made the allegation to hurt his friend and included my colleague purely out of spite.

The only consequences she faced was choosing to leave their small town where she had poisoned people against him with her lies, so she could escape the local gossip after being exposed. She faced no legal consequences.

I still think about that conversation a lot. Throughout the conversation his lasting despair was palpable. It really resonated with me and I felt his pain. He only discussed it the once but it has always stayed with me, more than any other conversation we ever had and he imparted on me a lot of knowledge and taught me a lot of skills. Probably more than any conversation i've ever had in any workplace.
