How old are you? How many times you've gotten laid in your lifetime? There is a big difference between being a middle aged man or a young man who've gotten laid a few times, and a young man who's never experienced being genuinely sexually desired, not even once.

A man in his 20s basically has his system flooded with testosterone, and it's not fun when you have all this excess libido and desire for a female touch with no opportunity to have it. Go to the gym? It increases testosterone even more, and therefore more excess libido. Get a professional service? Contrary to what many people believe, young men actually desire the emotional reward of being genuinely desired more than merely satisfying the flesh. The only option left is being on a monk mode, rise above his primal desire, but sadly not every young men is cut for it. I did, but most couldn't.

Huh, seems like I've been misled then. Do you know the article/person who first coined the term?

Although, even if it's what that specific term is referring to, I think in practice a lack of romantic/sexual encounter contributes greatly to the loneliness felt by a lot of young men in my generation. Even if it's not the main contributor, I'd argue it's still a significant one.

The term has been commandeered by people to try and paint it as "men aren't getting romantic relationships", in order to shame men.

In that case I've fallen into their trap. Though like I said, in practice they are probably right. Anecdotally, most young men I know in real life are already having as much fun as they can get with the bros. The still missing piece for many is any semblance of desire from the opposite sex.
