I'm about to file for the second time. The first time I filed I later dropped it. One thing that would really help me stay the course this time would be to drastically limit contact from my stbx. We were married in 2017 and are in our 60s now. We are separated - she is living 2 hours away in the house we'd planned to retire to. She is capable of working, but is currently financially dependent on my income.
I've made a detailed monthly budget of all the recurring utility, insurance, etc bills, and of the amount left over each month, I send half to her for groceries and living expenses. Whenever there's an extraordinary expense - car or house repair, or medical, I've been paying that on top of her 50% of our monthly income. I have some pre marriage savings that I can access which is under a pre-nup. I will also be using that separate money to pay for my attorney. I plan on continuing to send her her monthly check.
Knowing her as I do, I anticipate that once she is served she will find a million ways to ask for additional funds, will have "health crises," try to get major car repairs, etc. I don't want to be unreasonable or cause her to go without medical attention, but the more access she has to me, the more likely it will be that the divorce will stall and die. Plus I don't trust that she won't just be working me.
I can block her calls, but I don't think I can change the locks on the main house to keep her away. I just really need any helpful suggestions on how to limit contact as much as possible for the duration.
