It's really interesting how economics and biology interact to shape our culture.
Many people think of the culture they grew up in as natural or normal but depending on the supply and demand of resources, the ratio of available men and women and other factors you get different kinds of cultures; polygamy, economic loyalty to a wife + mistresses and other variations.
There are even cultures (Tibet) where polyandry is common because of a lack of arable land, which means families can't afford to split the land inherited by sons. So they have to share the land and often wives.
The economic history of Western Europe and North America resulted the idea in principle of one man and one woman, and in the last hundred years pushing the average age of first marriage higher and higher to the point that it is disappearing as a cultural practice amongst larger parts of the population.

Why do you think Chinese people will happily render the rhino, the tiger, and any other animal on earth if necessary extinct in order to make sure that men have enough penis medicine to fuck 3 times a day every day of their lives? And of course this all presupposes that a lack of virility is the cause of infidelity in the woman.
This supports and reinforces my "viagra is popular because of women" theory.
