Is this considered gossiping? My dad does this all the time and it drives me crazy. Always talks about his brothers negative qualities whenever he’s brought up, then caps it off with a “he’s a good person has a good heart though” etc.
My uncle is an alcoholic who could’ve been successful but got divorce raped and sort of slipped into his own downfall. But he’s super charismatic and could’ve had an amazing life but my dad never brings it up, only usually negative observations on his life.
My brother does the same thing. Constantly talks about how some of his friends are in jail for drugs or making dumb decisions. The key here is that they sort of tell other people in their respective circles, people who know them. But they bring it up and try to play this self-righteous angle of “I’m just looking out for them” sort of tone after spilling out their dirty baggage. I know my dad, got this from my brother. And my sister and mom do this a lot too- but they are women so I chalk it up to that.
It pisses me off because they do it to me too. They talk about my shortcomings often, when I’m not around. Is this normal in a family? Or are they all learning/adopting toxic habits from my dad
Is this considered gossiping? P.S. my family is successful. They all have good jobs/careers and live decent to fulfilling middle class jobs. I think that reinforces their authority to feel obligated to talk about other peoples problems as if they have the right to.
But gossiping pisses me off and it’s starting to bug me. Mainly because I’m staying with my family for the last few months and they always do this
