You're going off the rails with your story about five year olds.

One way of staying on the rails and getting your head around what things might be like in 20 years: go back 20 years, read articles from the early 1990s. Compare the situation then with the situation now. Do the things they complain about seem mild compared to now, or extreme, or the same? Compare their predictions with the way things turned out: were they on the right track? too fast? too slow? or bypassed by later developments?

Can't think of any interesting 1990s articles at the moment, unfortunately. Hopefully somebody else here can post some useful links.

Edit: Probably too late for this thread, but this is from a 1989 article. Compare and contrast.

At a conference in Aspen, Betty Friedan argues that women are more moral than men. She receives a standing ovation from men and women alike. I refuse to stand. And seeing the men applauding and smiling, I think: If a man came to this conference and gave a speech in which he said that men were inherently more moral than women, the women would stone him to death. So why are these men standing and applauding? What's happened to men, anyway?

There is no question that men feel under attack, and psychologically beaten down. All sorts of horrible qualities are attributed to us: we are unemotional, we are brutal, we are violent, we are uncaring. We're lousy lays. We don't know how to do it. We don't know how to find that clit. We don't know how to satisfy our mates.

We've been hearing this for more than twenty years. There are young men who have grown up in America who have heard nothing else.

If social trends prevail, things will get extremely bad, indeed. Imagine Gloria Steinem literally wiping her ass with the Bill of Rights.
