You are the one who determines what is successful. Sports star, CEO, running a hardware store in a small country town, 2 kids, wife and a house in the burbs, or the life of a bachelor with a new woman every week.

YOU choose, don't let others define your own success, or you will always be Chasing someone else's definition of success

yes you can. if by successful you mean fulfilled and happy. due to my family i have a lot of contact with guys from prestigious business schools.

they are not the smartest guys (because they sit in the math&physics courses of MIT&princeton), but holy fuck their ambition to make money makes them work like mules, and they usually succeed in making big bucks. and from my experience they are happy with it.

Depends what you mean by "successful in life". When you don't have money, it seems like a worthy goal to make a lot of money (although it isn't as easy as it seems, especially today). Some of the happiest people I know aren't terribly wealthy, but live modestly and spend a lot of time with their families. Personally, I think you are going to be miserable if the "money" is your goal and motivator and not what you do.

No. I don't think so. How the fuck you gonna finance all your wonderful goals without the $$? Work hard then dick around the world in your forties. I mean it's pretty RP core info that men's SMV rises with age, but late thirties/early forties you should still be in decent shape to go do whatever the fuck you want.

If you define success as reaching goals you set for yourself, absolutely.

Nobody can tell you what the meaning of your life is, you have to set your own goals and define your own success.

Your other options are to follow someone elses opinion of success without having the same motivations as them, or to get stuck in an existential dilema.

Check out Atlas Shrugged. Even if you disagree with the politics, the portrayal of why men aspire for money, what money represents, etc, is amazing. Money is a product of your ability to do good, valuable work, and create something with your talents, effort, brainpower, etc. Money is an objective evaluation of how much you are able to provide society, and it isn't perfect, because often those who provide cheap and ultimately damaging entertainment gross the most $$$, but as a general rule of thumb, your money is a reflector of the quality / quantity of what you create.

Aspiring for money that comes easy or money that comes without you having to TRADE hard work / intellect for that money... is the path of laziness. Aspiring to be compensated well, and to have your wealth grow in proportion to your skill, experience, and intelligence growth is the right path. I want to make a lot of money, because to make a lot of money I would have to really sharpen my skills and out-think a lot of other people, and THAT latter bit is my true goal. Money can be the motivation, in fact, money SHOULD be the motivation, because in our society money can work as a force-multiplier for literally any endeavor you ever choose to do.

I would say that money is a decent motivator and a great one for guys who do not yet know what it is they want to become. 25 and feel like you have no idea what your career destiny is or what great works you want to achieve? Make money now, chase the paper, and then when you do figure out that you want to go write the next great novel or whatever, you have a solid foundation to access all of the resources you need to go do that.
