being butthurt usually involves letting something affect you on an emotional level and illicit an emotional response. the best response would depend on the situation however.

It's how you're affected and handle the slight.

Butthurt: Emotional outburst, passive aggressive behavior, becoming upset and inability to let it go.

Alpha: Dismissive, amused or addressing the slight directly.
