With all due respect you found the sub half an hour ago. Maybe read an lurk a bit more.

I think it's damaging to create a discourse where these two ideologies are at odds with one another

Why? other than you really don't see it being the case.

I hope there aren't any RPW who have dismissed the feminist agenda in its entirety because they feel it conflicts with their choice to be RP

Maybe they didn't dismiss it maybe they gave it a lot of thought and decided (just like you ) and maybe the aversion to feminism is a result of all their thoughts on said subject.

because they have some "false" sense of moral opposition

That's quite the assumption

I may be wrong but it sounds like you are experiencing a bit of cognitive dissonance as you seem to arguing for what you "want" as opposed to what "is"

Hi thanks for response

Well

Why? other than you really don't see it being the case.

I think I answered that when I said

I hope there aren't any RPW who have dismissed the feminist agenda in its entirety because they feel it conflicts with their choice to be RP. And I hope there aren't any feminists who dismiss the RP lifestyle because they have some false sense of moral opposition.

But to put it differently, in any situation, I think it's a shame to write off a perspective in its entirety (I'm all about perspective in general, and believe "if you're not seeing the thing from 6 different angles, you're not seeing the thing"). If two perspectives don't contradict each other, it isn't helpful to pose them as opposites.

Maybe they didn't dismiss it maybe they gave it a lot of thought and decided (just like you ) and maybe the aversion to feminism is a result of all their thoughts do said subject.

Well there's nothing wrong with that, and that's not what I'm speaking to here. I'm not suggesting everyone here (or everyone anywhere) should be feminists. I think everyone should have their own thoughts on the matter and subscribe or oppose based on their findings. I'm only speaking about those who feel excluded from one camp or the other purely based on the fact they feel they cannot belong in both. If they don't want to belong in both, well they don't want to belong in both.

That's quite the assumption

I'm not assuming though. In less than 30 minutes I've seen at least 2+ comments saying "I'm not/can't be a RPW because I'm a feminist" -- Point blank. I think that's a shame. I also do not think, and would not argue, that applies to everyone by any means.

I disagree, because I don't want everyone to be both a RPW and/or a feminist. I think views on either subject should be evaluated independently and any conclusion reached is fine. What I don't want, as well as what I think the situation is not, is a "you're one of them, or one of us -- so what's it going to be?" mentality, which is something I've seen in at least a few comments.

The thing is we are an Anti feminism group. You are coming into a well established sub and basically telling us you think we are wrong. This is precisely the type of attitude we are against. Please stop

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Alright then, stopped. No arguing and only listening, if you wouldn't mind -- for educations' sake (as I would like to understand):

  • What is it about your established ideology that directly conflicts with feminism?

  • Do you feel then, that it is impossible to identify as a feminist and as a RPW?

  • You say you're anti-feminist. Using theology as an example, the prefix anti- means 'against' while a- means lacking; so to say "I don't believe in God" is atheistic, while saying "I believe there is no god" is antitheistic. What about my statements "I don't want any limitations on me because of my gender" offends your ideology and makes me "basically telling us you think we are wrong" (I don't think you're wrong one bit, which was the - I believe lost - point of why I posted)

  • Another reason I posted is on one or your sidebarred posts (which I can't find atm) it talks about how femininity is to be celebrated, is not a weakness, is not allowing oneself to be a doormat, etc. That all resonates with me very strongly, and I couldn't agree more. It also sounds like a feminist argument. Where do these sentiments deviate from (if not counter) the fact that they are feminist in nature?

  • Would I perhaps be more correct to say this sub is anti-feminist culture? That could be completely understandable and I wouldn't be quick to disagree with you. Or, am I still misunderstanding the core of this space?

Anyway, thanks for your time. Confrontation is not my goal.

Look, I get that you think we are all ignorant of feminism and we just haven't been enlightened yet; you are here to "save" us, etc. Many of us are former feminists; most of us have careers.

There is nothing that you have said in this post that hasn't been posted at RPW hundreds of times; none of this is original. If you want to hang out that's great, but if you continue to school us "poor, dumb, ignorant women" in the ideology we have left behind, then your comments will be removed and you will be banned.

We already know what feminism is, we don't need your "kinder, gentler" form, and we are tired of outsiders coming here and trying to "open a line of discussion". This is a sub for like-minded women to get together and chat.

Holy Christ on a cracker! This is so unfair it's not funny.

  • That has no way been my intent.

  • There's nothing I've said that can be even mildly construed as condescending or as if there's some great truth you have yet to discover -- in my heart of hearts I don't believe that and am certain I've done no such thing.

  • I haven't been anything but conversational and frankly, desiring to understand this new place I've found and you've been nothing but overly-defensive. My ideology isn't important here, and I'm not some feminazi coming into your space. I'm not even an active feminist because it's too confusing for me to claim any real understanding of it. I'm so far from 'schooling' anybody, including you, and your accusations are alarming.

  • Even above I said "I think everyone should have their own thoughts on the matter and subscribe or oppose based on their findings"" How on earth is that suggesting anyone here is poor, dumb or ignorant"?

  • The thesis of my post is "I don't think RPW and feminism are contradictory". Nothing else.

Why are you attacking me for trying to understand? I feel like I've found something valuable here and I'm trying to adopt a rational perspective on it. I think there are plenty of places where it converges, diverges, and outright opposes any views I previously held. I'm very, very open to learning new things and I don't understand the hostility to simply trying to do that.

We get these posts constantly; try being enthusiastic when you repeat the same thing day after day with women who discover the sub and then 30 minutes later decide they have The Way to combine feminism and RPW.

You can't combine the two; feminism is all about selfishness and RPW is about selflessness (to your SO). But really, I don't think you will like it here, we don't use feminist words like "unfair" "accusations" "attacking" and "hostility".

I in no way attacked you, and yes, you were condescending.

I'll withhold personal judgement of the RPW mentality

How kind of you, LOL.
