I hate being the one pursuing and making all the effort.
Then stop it.
It is far better to be single than to be chasing men in this fashion. It's like you're hungry for a relationship, and men can sense this it. My husband says it's like spraying yourself with Man Repellent Body Spray everyday. The men you will attract will be the nefarious sort, and the men you want will be uninterested in you.
Men pursue. Women choose.
Go get some hobbies outside of dating. Focus on being happy by yourself. Once you mellow out, a strange thing happens. You become more attractive overall. Peaceful and content, you will attract more friends and potential boyfriends.
You say that men keep disappointing you. I imagine you see a guy and then project all these great qualities onto him that he may or may not have. Your criteria for man is like, "XY chromosomes? Check. Decent looking? Check. He's perfect!" Instead, try waiting to get to know a guy before getting to "he's perfect."
Often women on dates are so eager to talk and talk and talk about themselves that they have no clue who this guy is. They like the guy because he is a captive audience who is giving attention. And when the guy finally ghosts (no one wants a self-absorbed partner), they wonder what went wrong. I have a co-worker who is stuck in this dating cycle. Instead of trying to sell yourself on a date, try listening--really listen. If you pay attention, you will know a man's heart, a man's character.
Best wishes!

You're right I actually do kind of have a way at first of projecting my "perfect self" onto a guy. Someone who doesn't have flaws. I've been taking a break from dating since I posted this. Got off all those dating apps. I feel a lot better and less stressed.

Read the sidebar and work on yourself. Stick around, read everything and start implementing these things into your life. Men don't value women who don't value themselves, and men aren't interested in "your life and you as a person" unless you are actually interesting.

I seem to keep running into jerks. I get my hopes up about a guy and they let me down. Most of the time they lack decency.
And how do you behave towards those guys? Do you think that those guys are capable of being a 'nice, decent guy', but make an active choice to be a 'jerk', when they meet girls who aren't feminine and ladylike?

Well I don't put up with it. If they make a mistake I'll call them out on it. not rudley but I'm not going to take it.
