It comes down to what you're passionate about, what YOU want to do. Follow that and you'll have something to look forward to developing on your own and as a result will socialize with others that have the same passion.

Parties / meeting with groups of strangers is empty. Be someone that people have a reason to want to be around, find people you have a specific reason for wanting to be around.
