Only if you are a STEM major and it is top ranked in that major. And if so start applying for scholarships.

Depends on what you want to do. What major? Grad school? Near by? In an environment conducive to success?

If it's a private school and you have decent grades, parents are lower or lower-middle class (or are in a politically protected class), almost no one pays the cost shown on the web site.

You have to apply to find out what their offer is though, and you can bargain to some extent (they have all your parents financial info so you can't cry poor).

My daughter is at a private school (web site says >$40k) and she got like $10k in grants right off the bat and her grades were mediocre and my income is higher middle class.

The house and real estate does not factor into your FAFSA. Only income and cash and investments.

Apply and see what they offer. It usually only costs like $50 or so to apply. You don't have to accept their offer.

It almost certainly won't be $70k. My son, with mediocre grades, applied to a school that had web site cost of $67k and his cost would have been $45k. And my income is over $100k.

You won't have to cook - except in a microwave maybe...

I mean practical stuff like cleaning a bathroom, laundry, shopping, public transportation, budgeting money, budgeting time, waking up on time, getting to class, doing homework... all the stuff being on your own entails.

Some kids get experience with that before they head off. Others have mom & dad deal with that stuff and it's a total shock to them when they get dropped off at school. Some figure it out, others have a hard time adapting.

Some who don't go home every weekend. But if you are many hours away, that's not an option.

Socially - there is lots of dead time in college. Some isolate themselves and don't adapt. Others make friends and have a great time.

My son had two roommates and one spent all his free time in his dorm playing games, and never adapted. He dropped out after the first semester.
