pursuing every woman you find attractive is helping or hurting me.
If you have to ask, it's probably hurting. Likely because you don't know yourself well enough to know when you're feeling the "right" kind of attraction from having been emotionally desensitized and mentally fucked up by public education and the whole "induction into society" process as you were / are growing up (lasts until you're 30ish).
When you look at a woman and THINK she's hot, that's just you thinking random shit. When you look at a woman & get hard on the spot because you FEEL she's hot - or you like her smile, or something else like that where looking at her makes you FEEL good and chipper and relaxed (instead of anxious), then it's a good idea to go and talk to her.
