I'd suggest learning how to identify and avoid bullshit. For example: Believing Bullshit: How Not to Get Sucked into an Intellectual Black Hole
If you still can't figure it out then just try something and see how it works, adjust accordingly.
By the way I'd recommend starting with something like this: Bigger, Leaner, Stronger - He provides a lot of references to back up his diet and exercise programs as well.

So what you're asking is how to assess sources' credibility and accuracy without doing the background research?
There's a reason that dietitians and personal trainers exist. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, pay someone else who has.
You pay other professionals when you need it - Doctors, Lawyers, Programmers, Engineers. Why short yourself here? If you're asking the broader topic, look up critical thinking skills.

Lot of things matter.Im not an expert but i know for sure that the diet depends on your metabolism and another factors. It also depends on how much you lift and how much you exercise in general each day(Even walking burns calories). I can see 2 possible ways to get what you want. 1st is to ask a proffesional and after some regular test, you will get a diet from him.If you lift your trainer will know the rest. The other way is to experiment by yourself on different diets and see what works better in terms of muscle recovery and energy deposits. About information overload topic.Dont take everything you read as granted just leave a possibilty in your mind that they can help you improve. I had the same problem in the past.I was overthinking and receiving a massive amount of information, most coming from the internet and Most of it it was junk no reason to even exist in my head.It would do more harm than good and it creates confusion.Way i dealt it is to not take everything i read so seriously i rather looked for more sources from different places so i can see what was legit and what was not.
