I'm 20, don't go out much. I'm a good looking guy, but I've been a little overweight for a while. I've lost 20 pounds in the last couple months (215 from 235) and I started lifting. I never talked about lifting, but girls at work noticed and commented on how I'm getting slim and my muscles are getting bigger.

I went to the theatre tonight to see Jurassic World with my brother and there was an empty seat between us. This 8/10 girl needs a seat, so she comes and asks if she can sit next to me. I say "sure" and move to the empty seat. She had a kid with her, I don't know if it was hers or maybe her little cousin or something. So the kid sits between me and the girl at first, but about 10 minutes in they switch seats and I'm sitting by the girl.

I assumed she was interested, because she wasn't with a guy and she could have picked anybody else in the theatre to ask for a seat. So I'm trying to come up with a way to initiate... But negative thoughts start coming up like "you don't even have a phone, no way you're going to get her number" and "you're still overweight...this girl might have been interested if you were 20 pounds lighter". Also I was telling myself that it would be impolite to talk during a movie. Eventually I decided that it was too late, and that if I was going to say something I would have said it by now.

Would it have been a good idea to try to escalate? What could I have said/done to open this girl?
