I really wish all demographic information was left off of things like applications and we were judged in a purely merit based system. Either you are capable of doing the job or you aren't. I envision some sort of system where applications are stripped of name, age, gender, and race, are given a number, and then picked based on qualifications only. Possibly judged by a third party when physical tests are necessary and they have ONE check box, not multiple based on gender, for yes this person can lift X lbs or no. No finding out what sort of people you are calling in until applicant #17 shows up for their interview.

I'm a little drunk and a male, but I'd like to give my opinion just for discussion reasons: Most women in management positions come off as bitches. I think a lot of this has to do with sexism at it's root. Men, by nature, are very fraternal, while girls seem to fight each other. When a girl gets to a management positions, she tends to have to compensate by being extremely aggressive and critical. They then subsequently come off as bitches.

However, that doesn't mean it's the end. I've worked with a LOT of women I respected in power positions that weren't bitches. It has a lot to do with the woman learning how men play the game, treat each other, and so on. When she starts getting fraternal, firm, but not aggressive, I tend to have a lot more respect for them.

To give an example of the meme with some personal experience take a look at the U.S. Army APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test). The male push-up standard can be found here, and the female push-up standard here.

Army Regulation states a soldier (male or female) must obtain 60% in each category (push-ups, sit-ups and 2 mile run). The minimum amount of push ups a male soldier between the ages of 17-21 must do is 42 in order to pass while a female in the same age category needs to complete only 19 push ups. In order for a male soldier to receive the maximum amount of points in the push-up event he must complete 71 or higher push-ups. A female needs to complete only 42 push-ups which is the minimum requirement for male soldiers. A massive difference which hurts the Army more so now since females can enlist in combat jobs.

The above is just an example of how females in the U.S. Army get away with doing much less physical work but still receiving equal or better treatment.

My father is a fireman. He's a senior station officer, so he's responsible for four crews and an entire station/watch. He has no issue with women in his brigade, but he hates picking up their slack. He has a woman on his crew who can't lift the ladders. She is a firefighter but she cannot physically manipulate the equipment needed to do her job safely. How on God's green earth is her putting men's lives at risk equality?

I can understand how a woman's touch could be needed in other emergency services, but when the job requirements are working with large numbers of alpha men and being strong, I don't see how letting in the feminine touch can help. If a woman shows up who can match male recruits exercise for exercise? Well, Hell son. Fair play to her. Slap a uniform on her and find her a different place to shower. But say I never see my father again because he was seriously injured and she wasn't man enough to fireman's lift him out? Then Hath no fury like me taking on our government for negligence.
