Some communities are more inclusive than others. I've found the music scene to be super accepting of people, be it house, salsa, jazz, dead, you name it.

The arts/drama seem very accepting as well, albeit a little too flamboyant for me.

Sure, some people will be dicks. You need to weed then out and find people who accept you. In the process of weeding out the people that don't belong and/or reject you, you'll find you build a thick skin that attracts others.

Same way you pick up chicks. Numbers, numbers, numbers. Just accept that 9/10 are going to reject you. Keep at it and you'll eventually find connections.
