During a little family get to gather the topic of marriage came up. My LTRs (Cindy) little sister (Jane), and her boyfriend, where there.

At some point, someone asked when they want to get married. Instead of answering Jane became super upset about my relationship with her sister. At first, I thought she was joking but she started yelling at some point. How retarded it is that she must get married before her older sister even though our relationship has been lasting 12 years now. She said a few more things like I am just commitment phobic, want to leave myself an easy way out, it’s silly to stay with a guy that won’t marry you etc.

I shrugged it off, managed to downplay her outbreak, joked about it a bit and we all had a nice evening. Or so I thought. But the following day, their mother took me aside and claimed Cindy wants me to propose and I should really consider doing so. I said that’s between my and her and I might discuss it when we’re home.

Keep in mind I know this family for almost 13 years now. Never any issues, we always got along great, so this came rather unexpected. We’re both over 30.

Anyways, how do I navigate this situation and stop Cindy’s family from trying to pressure her into marriage? Obviously, marriage is not an option.

Tl;dr: How to navigate a situation where LTR's family is trying to pressure her into marriage, when marriage is not an option?
