Get a job, start anywhere. For academics, there’s school if you’re enrolled or not (you didn’t specify), and pick up and read books; expand your knowledge. Meet people, go out with close friends, I’m assuming you have some close friends. It’s never too late, if all you can do is crawl, start crawling...

The ONLY a person you should be comparing yourself to is YOU. Measure how you are doing against you a year ago, 5 years ago etc.

You will progress over time. Everyone else is a distraction.

The good advice and truth has already been said. I am post 40, and technically "behind" most my age. I make decent money, but my first divorce and court wrecked my credit and financial life. So my investments, savings and such are behind and I am renting a house still. I have goals, though, and on track to be debt free in 2021, and retire on time, as well as pursuing new passions. I have kids and am married again. If all I listen to are my peers talking about their retirements, houses, and boats, I would get discouraged. But almost NONE of them are building the CHARACTER OR BODY that I am building. And NONE of them lead their wives and families like I currently do. All that matters is the path you put yourself on, not where you are or been.
