His brother disslikes me, what should i do?

Be civil and polite and let it go. Most of my husband's family loved me when they met me. One brother did not. He had been burned badly in divorce court and was unhappy in his current relationship because his girlfriend would not prioritize him appropriately. The first time I met him he spent a chunk of the evening glaring at me with pure hatred in his eyes and it sent chills down my spine. I acted as if I was not unnerved, was sweet and friendly towards him even though he was cold, and just focused on enjoying myself at the family event. It has been nearly two years since I met this brother and he has come around. He acts friendly and polite towards me and has softened his demeanor so much. His initial reaction to me was in large part just due to himself and his current life struggles and not really anything I had done specifically. And, he was able to eventually realize that because I did not get caught up in his inner turmoil. Just try to be okay with the fact that this brother might not like you for now and be nice anyways, but don't try too hard to make him like you. Your boyfriend sounds like he is commitment minded and at the end of the day the thing that will win the brother over is seeing how happy you make your boyfriend. I was not exactly the girl my husband's family had in mind for who he should marry but they saw I made him happier than anyone he had ever dated and that made them welcome me to the family with open arms.

They will come around just continue to be pleasant and enjoy your time with his family as much as possible. My SO’S entire family hated me when we first started dating. They did research on me and found out I was a foster kid and an immigrant and thus came to the conclusion that I was some gold digging Russian slut after his money. My SO stomped that in the butt as soon as he found out why they were so cold to me. Anyways yeah it ended up being his dad’s issue not mine. My boyfriends mother was similar to me she was an immigrant and she was a foster kid. Anyways his dad and his mom had a nasty divorce so I guess being around me was like a blast from his past and he freaked out thinking that I was going to turn out like my boyfriends estranged mother. Fair enough right, we date our parents I guess? But once I built some trust despite all the odds stacked against me everyone loves me and we all have a great time together and I finally have the family I never had.

My husband's mom and his best friend both hated me. I did make a big deal of it at the time and reacted really badly to it which I shouldn't have. He is head over heels in love with me and people in love don't even listened to well reasoned arguments about why they should break up with someone. Just act nice to him and he will look like he's being a baby.
