It's a shrewd business move. He wants to sell. Everyone knows that when a white liberal progressive self-admits to racism, no one will bother to check with the alleged offended party as to whether they actually felt slighted. It's a form of power talk.

Recently a group of white liberal progressives decided that the army's "apache helicopter" was racist because it honors the fighting spirit of the apache native americans. No one bothered to actually find an Apache and ask him if he was pissed that the army named a gunship after his tribe.

These conversations about racial injustice have nothing to do with you, the minority individual. These little "chats" about race exist as a way for influential whites to maneuver their assets on the playing field. Buy this, sell that. The economy is a chess board and the race card is as powerful as the Queen.

The hypocrisy is that liberal progressives--while claiming the moral high ground--actually don't give a shit about you, or any minority. They don't live among blacks, study with them, or particularly like their culture. Blacks are just pawns to be used on the chess board. But, as pawns, they can only be wielded by liberal progressives. Conservatives have different pawns (Bible thumpers, gun lovers).

The problem is, I didn't really see a lot of "facts" in there. There was no scientific information to support a lot (most, to be honest) of what he was saying. In fact I'm pretty sure he even admitted in the letter that it was "unscientific."

If you're making generalized statements about a group of people without objective information backing it, no one is going to see that as fact (even if in reality it's true). In that case it's stereotyping. I agree that, in general, PC has gone too far. But if you're going to start running your business based on these views, the information backing it needs to be iron-clad. And that's the way it should be.

I do. A majority of the theory here is based in objective fact or empirical information, and that gives those theories (and the ideas that stem from them) credence. Why do you think TRP works and makes sense? It's not because our anecdotal bullshit is better than theirs. It's because what we're saying isn't based purely in anecdotal bullshit, period. There is something objective to support it.

You don't need a scientifically peer reviewed research paper to know that there's a ton of black people somewhere. This isn't PC run amok, this guy is obviously looking for an out and the SJWs will come to his heed while he walks away laughing with probably $30 million dollars more than he should get for this terrible franchise.

If not that, there will probably be some shocking scandal that just so happens to come out in 4-5 months that he of course had no idea about.

You don't need a scientifically peer reviewed research paper to know that there's a ton of black people somewhere.

He's saying the black people are scaring the white people away. If you're going to run your business based on something like that or purport it to be true, you sure as fuck better have some "fancy scientific data type stuff" backing it up. This extends beyond even PC or race discussion. Who the fuck runs a multi-million dollar business based on largely unsupported beliefs?

This isn't PC run amok, this guy is obviously looking for an out and the SJWs will come to his heed while he walks away laughing with probably $30 million dollars more than he should get for this terrible franchise.

I'm not sure how you got there. If he's (essentially) being forced to sell, he's a lot more likely to get less money than he otherwise would. He's lost a ton of leverage. That isn't going to help him.

Have you never heard of white flight? Also, a ton of business decisions are based largely on unsupported belief. If it supported based on something, it's usually cherry picked among multiple conflicting reports.

First of all, being forced to sell means there's an opportunity to sell which he didn't have before (look below). Then you can combine the furor of getting the team out of the hands of a racist and there you go, you get a higher price than what the team probably should get. Look at what happened with Sterling. People were guessing the Clippers was worth maybe $1 billion.

Sure. And those decisions tend to bring with them laughable results more often than not. It's actually amazing to me that on TRP of all things, a place that often takes a fact-based approach to dealing with women/life that is supported by objective evidence in the face of a barrage of anecdotal bullshit from women/the media, some people still fail to see why running your business based on unfounded beliefs is a bad idea. This is the equivalent of someone spouting some bullshit about the wage gap between men and women. A commonly held belief that most people would SWEAR is 100%, undeniable truth. "It's just true!"

Of course, when you actually start looking at objective information, you see quickly that this isn't the case.

No one is going to pay a premium to "get it out the hands out a racist." That's ludicrous. If he wasn't (effectively) being forced to sell then yeah, maybe some idiot would pay a premium just to get it out of his hands. But nobody has to do that. It has already been decided that he will sell the team; the only question is to whom and for how much. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to pay a premium for the Hawks beyond what would have been there if this was a normal sale. He doesn't have any choice to sell. Again, no leverage in many respects.

He probably also doesn't have any scientific data to support the notion that it's a bad idea to greet customers with "Hello sir" instead of "Hey fuckface", but he still probably lets that belief drive his business practices.

You really don't need a study to tell you that people will avoid a business if they're likely to be harassed there.

I'm black and I don't think he was racist at all just making observations as a businessman, if anything he analyzed the reality of the existing racism that still exists in the south among Middle Aged white guys (the season ticket buyers he wanted)

Granted, more than a few RP'ers swing conservative because we're sick of the bullshit PC Agenda shoved down our throats by progressives while crying for "Tolerance", but TRP's first and foremost focus, is and hopefully always will be, on sexual strategy, which I will note is neither conservative nor liberal/progressive in nature. My bullshit meter is going off here. There's something else going on. This guy self-reported the email to the league, and then volunteered to sell his part of the team before they even tried to punish him. The email is silly, but it's a distraction.

Last line of the article:

Oh I see. This guy has wanted out for years and he saw that Sterling got 2 billion. So he's hoping that people get into a bidding war for his much less valuable team. This has shit to do with political correctness. Nobody is forcing him out.
