For women: do whatever.

for men: All that precious time wasted. Get rid of that damn thing!

This article is basically a glimpse into modernity, and by association dating:

Of the top activities, respondents overall reported spending the most time texting (an average of 94.6 minutes a day), followed by sending emails (48.5 minutes), checking Facebook (38.6 minutes), surfing the Internet (34.4 minutes) and listening to their iPods. (26.9 minutes).

Under the purview of facebook, put instagram, okcupid app, tinder. Would you spend 10 hours doing something that you didn't deeply enjoy? cell phones are mini-validation machines, allowing vanity to flourish (selfies), gain attention (OMG 50 likes!) and options orbited or pursued (tinder, texting, really all of these things). It's a different world from even five years ago when these sort of things were in their nascent form.

I'm not that old, but old enough to remember early cell phones w/o all these capabilities (flip phones, yep) - it was possible to go out and meet a girl and have an unencumbered conversation with her, without her leash drawing her attention every few minutes.

Now, such a thing is exceptional as oppose to the rule - one of my 'is she worth your time' tells is her ability to stow her phone on a date, or even just out in public. Linked to this is a low social media presence - the better girls you encounter will be sort of 'over it' when it comes to having a huge following online. They know they're worth it without a digital ego prop-up.

It's worth noting men are little better wrt usage #s, but for many the thirst knows no bounds and these guys are just trying to go where the girls are. It doesn't excuse the same ego-validating bull, but it does help explain it.

I know none of this is groundbreaking, just emblematic of what it's like these days and should help keep some perspective. Even air-tight frame and good game will still lose on occasion to the siren's pull of iPhone heroin. The good news is it is a little bit of a litmus test - girls who are so enchanted with their phones and all the associated aspects of it are in general poorer fits for a long term lasting mate.

I, too, remember the days of the flip phone. A much different world than today, that's for sure. Even just hanging out at a bar with a mixed crowd and realizing you're the only one not fucking around on your phone is a bit depressing.

Only thing I can do is text the girl across from me to stop being anti social.

When she doesn't reply back, you know she's not "busy"
