He had a chance to get out of India and study in the U.S. He also had a chance to go work in Singapore, which is a developed country (3 highest per capita income), but he choose not to go. Do people not realize that this is the equivalent of a crazy girl sticking her face into a wood-chipper and saying "But I did it for you! I love you!" You are going to run away as fast as you can.

Just because you made a sacrifice, that doesn't mean anybody will give a shit. It is not like the guy saved the girl's life. He didn't add as much value to her life as he thinks he did. She can just find another guy easily. She didn't even have to try, her parents found one for her. So why does he think she owes him anything? He offered a commodity good. If he can offer something she cannot get, then she will choose him. The other guy could offer a home in the U.S., he wins easily.

Yeah, well, when push comes to shove, most people will make choices like this.
