"Part of me was disappointed in the lack of effort and sincerity that so many of my fellow men exercised in communicating with me, a supposed female Brooklynite who's single and looking." - If you are a woman on an online dating site you have no right to complain. You are on the internet and can actively search profiles and open men. If you wait for people to come to you then you have chosen a path that requires you to filter through messages.

The Good - "Take this guy, who seemed like a real sweetheart." Yeah the douche bag asked "her" to teach him to use a camera, and told her she had a great smile. I fail to see how a generic comment and pretending to be pathetic is good.

The Bad: "a number of guys sent me one-word messages." Online dating is superficial and a numbers game. Send a one word email if she's interested she'll scroll through your pictures, look at your profile and check your salary. Also why is sending a one word email bad? Does he actually expect guys to tailor message to individual girls? Most messages sent by males won't get read and won't ultimately matter if you're ugly or have a shit job. What are women generally doing? I'd bet if they are attractive they are sitting on their butts weeding through applicants rather than actively trying to find a match. Ugly girls might actively be searching but they try to fight outside their weight class.

"Some use canned lines" The horror. If canned lines work blame women for responding. Canned lines are equivalent to one word emails and sent for the same reasons.

"One immediately made the grand leap to an offer of casual sex" Is he trying to slut shame the guy? The guys honest about he wants. Would he rather the guy lie and manipulate a girl for sex?

The ugly: Asking a girl if she's Jewish. Are men not allowed to have preferences now? In my opinion there is nothing wrong with actively seeking to date Jewish girls.

Then we have a dating and relationships expert recommending that men impersonate women online so they know how women feel. - No way this could backfire and negatively effect the online dating market. Also, is impersonating a woman online fair to men? That's right no one cares about the men.

"And then there are the "scripts" she told me about: "Some men really blow it by using scripts or templates. The woman ends up interacting with a dynamic man over the Internet who can't make eye contact in person."" - Who gives a fuck? The men get dates.

TLDR: "If you send the same generic message to ten girls and get one response, it's easy to count that a success. So why not do it over and over?" - Bingo. The expert hit the nail on the head with that line. Why fault men for taking the most effective approach.

If he really didn't want to be bothered by so much unwanted male attention on a dating site, he could have just changed her age from 27 to 35.

Don't forget "sassy and curvy"

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Or "athletic", sadly

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The fat acceptance crowd is consuming up "athletic" now?

Go to OK Cupid and look for yourself

The age range and type of men messaging her would have changed drastically at "35". Like all independent single women at 35, she could look forward to receiving messages from divorced and married men in their 40s that were direct and to the point: Join my harem or GTFO.

Join my harem or GTFO.

I started doing that, to older AND younger women. I am 33. I am not certain it really works but at least I don't waste time in dead ends.

This comment has been removed, as the user has moved on to greener pastures (baaaahh!), where they take free speech a little more seriously.

I'd like to see a part II. Where this douche bag pretends to be several different guys with similar profiles with variance in salary, height, job status and appearance (ugly-really good looking, poor-rich, low status-high status job).

I bet if he runs the above experiment men's profiles will get fewer responses and very few quality responses. Only high status males will get any attention and most of it will be superficial because were talking about online dating.

The biggest issues for part II is that men will be inundated with messages from hambeast and Uggos that have an inflated sense of self worth. The women that contact him will want to date out of their league.

TLDR: They should run a part II from the perspective of an average male so bitches would realize how good they have it."

[–]mister_zd4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed.

Online dating, never again; total waste of time and on certain sites, money. I prefer to stick to meeting women in real life under "natural" circumstances, i.e: I dont do clubs and places specifically made for hooking up.

It's not Poe's law, because it's not a parody. It's a white knight with a "submit to BI" button on his hand.

Think about the background information one has to bring to the table in order to make sense of the article. For starters, the title only makes sense if you are a man. Secondly, it implies that online dating is easy for women (an "assumption" men make; i.e. the truth). Then the title tries to revert this assumption with that "It Was Terrible" thing. So he is not parodying, he's defending women's viewpoint. Poor girls that have to deal with men that are just doing online what they do in real life: go after women (after all, women won't come to men).

As a side note:

Take this guy, who seemed like a real sweetheart.

Did he also have his balls removed before doing this "experiment"?

[–]kudosxv5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He didn't tell use anything we didn't already know.

[–]TheD_5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What a weird, anemic looking dude.

[–]LasherDeviance2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sad part is, he didn't swallow the pill after interviewing RPS.

[–]luxury_banana3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or maybe he did and he just doesn't have any actual employment opportunities that don't involve being a low rent Dr. Phil.
