This feels relevant although it seems like I've shared this a lot lately: The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene aka how to be manipulative as fuck if manipulation doesn't come naturally to you

I offer this in light of this

Does offer an explanation for her article. All I can say is Roissy better be getting royalties for this piece. CH 101 it is

Better than a sociopath, be a psychopath.

It's one of the Dark Triad, and when you read the "conditions" most of them just seem like being really awesome is the same thing as being a psychopath.

From here: http://www.occupycorporatism.com/study-psychopaths-can-turn-off-empathy-at-will/

Identifiers that the person around you is a psychopath are:

• The person lacks empathy [won't break frame]

• Makes self-serving moral choices [selfish, puts himself before others]

• Lies repeatedly and unnecessarily [this one is BS]

• Is a master manipulator [machiavellism]

• Deflects blame [As if this is a bad thing]

• Shows no remorse for their actions [won't break frame]

• Is two-faced [too vague, but can also count as "mysterious"]

• Ignores their responsibly to loved ones and everyone around them [you mean won't bend over backwards for others]

• Surrounds themselves with people who are useful to them [How terrible!]

• Superficially charming and feigning sincerity for others for popularity [Also, what a crime to be charming]

While to most those traits would seem bad, I added some notes to them to show why they're actually good things.

You should probably read this. Sociopath and psychopath is the same thing. The word is interchangeable.

Oh, cool. Thanks.

[–]TheGentlemanZombie-5 points-4 points-3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not entirely. Sociopaths are made while Psychopaths are born that way.

• Lies repeatedly and unnecessarily [this one is BS]

I incessantly lie to people. My thoughts/opinions are fairly heretical, and the average person plugged into the matrix isn't ready to hear them, thus it is a means of self preservation. It's also very amusing and is a fun way of testing/playing with them.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess I just didn't like that they put "unnecessarily", but I guess it would be in the context they frame it.

[–]iseeyou13122 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, unnecessarily implies without reason or purpose, but that definitely isn't the case.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

All those children at school are psychopaths because they surround themselves with people who are useful to them.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sure it's trying to say that it's a bad thing because you're supposed to also surround yourself in people that can directly benefit from you. As if any successful person in life made that their strategy.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If everyone surrounds themselves with people who are useful to them, useless people will be alone and everyone else will enjoy a symbiotic relationship.

[–]Nutz760 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dark Triad personality traits are fantastic for short-term mating success and those who espouse them tend to do well in their careers too (which also helps get women). Being cutthroat in certain fields is a huge factor in finding success from a business perspective. Anyway, it all boils down to living life by your own rules and going after/taking what you want. Being bold has always been favorable than being meek and women reward bold men with attention, affection, and sex. Even if they don't want to have sex with you right away, they'll be far more likely to forgive overly bold transgressions than if you were too reserved to ever make a move for instance.

Since I started acting like a sociopath, I have:

-gained 25lbs of muscle

-got a PhD

-increased my salary by 50k

-had casual sex with a few girls

It works!

I can usually charm myself out of it, so most men don't recognize that I'm using them. Girls on the other hand have a natural intuition for men who are suspiciously charming. "You don't care, you're a psychopath," one girl told me shortly after meeting her, "but you're the good kind of psychopath" (meaning she was attracted to me). Another said, "you have no soul or heart," because I was no longer a challenge to her, I was impossible (she kept sleeping with me though). Yet another said, "you have the charm of a serial killer, with nothing behind the eyes." My closest female friend calls me a narcissist and a machine.

You're right, I don't have many friends, most people keep me at a distance. I change my friends all the time, go from one group to another, until they figure out my true nature. I get laid without putting any effort into it, and I can easily charm myself to free drinks from both guys and girls, as long as they don't know me too well.

Most of my relationships fall apart as soon she develop feelings for me, I was just there for entertainment, and I know from experience that it's close to impossible for me to fuck a girl who already has a crush on me, they have to be fresh with only sexual attraction to me, no deeper feelings, otherwise I'll get the bullshit "I'm afraid you'll break my heart." Of course I will, what else to do? Cold blooded seduction of warm blooded sex toys.

Men can learn from psychopaths, but don't be one, there's a limit to the charm, we can't keep pretending to care all the time.

I'm born like this, no doubt about it. I had a good childhood but I was a bad kid. In most cases I lack empathy, psychopaths have an empathy switch, so I can turn my feelings on and off. I don't really have to fake it, because I actually feel empathy in situations I have to, what makes me different is that I can turn it off when need.

I do love children though. I looked through my genome and found a gene that had been showed to increase maternal instinct in women, I'm a man, but it may be why I completely change nature around children - and around vulnerable teen girls. I wonder if the way I feel about children, actual empathy that can be turn off as easily as otherwise, is how normal people feel about everybody, because then it's goddamn horrifying to be normal, just imagine all the things I had to feel bad about.

I took a psychopathy test on the internet, and I score 30/40, which is just high enough to be diagnosed as a psychopath, 30 is the limit. I also have other traits of psychopaths: I matured very late and I was a bedwetter, both typical traits for psychopaths, but not part of the diagnosis, obviously.

When discussing psychopathy, you have to remember it's not just lack of empathy. There's also traits like impulsive, lack a sense of consequences, substance abuse, constant feeling of boredom and inability to form meaningful relationships. The reason so many psychopaths end up in jail is not just they don't feel empathy and remorse, it's also because they are impulsive. Psychopaths' brains don't respond to classical conditioning the way normal people do. Psychopaths simply don't learn. The amygdala, the emotional center of the brain, is underdeveloped in psychopaths, so they're emotionally shallow much the same way children are.

[–]Pushnikov1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's multiple ways to get your emotions under control in that way. You could look at a Buddhist and say they almost intentionally develop something resembling sociopathy as described above - except they don't use it for self-gain and desire. Although they talk about "compassion", what they're really saying is, separate yourself from everything - so you can be compassionate indiscriminately and without attachment should your object of compassion fall victim to "life" (read : death). It's almost like a converse (not inverse) sociopathy.

In other words, putting your emotions and desires at bay can be good at accomplishing your goals. This is pretty hard and a world away for the average person today who is taught that they're a special butterfly and that they have a right to feel offended about every damn thing. It wasn't long ago that everyone had a basic understanding of suffering and perceived suffering. Today, it's self-entitlement and taking offense to everything under the sun.

I rationalize everything to make myself look noble. I'm self-aware enough to know that, but in the situation I actually believe my lies. Unless I'm way too drunk I actually seem like a more sympathetic person than the average guy.

I know all about my shortcomings. I've tried to be sober, but I'm a mean sober, not a mean drunk, so I self-medicate with alcohol. I'm well-raised, so I actually try to be a good person, but at times I become straight out evil. I had a fling with a girl who was the typical strong and independent bitch. I wanted to see if I could bring her to her knees, just as a psychological experiment. I psychologically abused her, made her feel stupid and ugly, I withdrew my affections at times and became sweet at other times, I ignored her, made her jealous, and I had random bursts of anger, so she was constantly afraid of pissing me of. When she finally became my slave, I just left her, the experiment was over. Her friend told me she had to see a therapists with symptoms of post-traumatic stress. In my disturbed mind, this made it okay. She was weak and thus deserving of being mistreated. I rationalize things in that way, I hate weak people and I don't see the world in good and bad, I see it in strong and weak.

I do think I have a sense of clarity that most people don't have, because they're clouded by empathy. My friend had a depression, which led him to lose a lot of friends. It wasn&#
