I always laugh when they throw out the old "Most men are intimidated by me or scared to go on a date with me" as though its just that they are sooo great most men can't handle them. "Whats wrong? Can't handle a strong independent woman?". The answer is "No...I just don't find strong women attractive. Its not a case of being intimidated by it"

I wonder if it works the other way around? "Women are intimidated by me cause I'm too feminine for them. It scares them and they can't handle it". You'd be laughed at.

I also like how we get to hear for 5 minutes of the awful plight of these women, and then at the very end they tag on "a lot of these women won't date anyone if they don't have money". So its really not a case of being left over. Just they don't want to have to lower their standards any. So much for that "strong independent" mind set coming through. I see the fact that the 'left over men' who don't have any money also get no mention or sympathy.

Bingo.

Reminds me of a pseudo-argument I got into once. Some girl on FB posted a picture of men in the 1950s, and pouting about "back then men were men". I mentioned that I agree, but that the phrase "men were men" subtly implies the idea of a "gender role". Hmmmm. And then I followed up with that I liked the picture commemorating a time when "women were women" also. That didn't go over too well. :)

They perpetuate a double standard, they want the traditional men with all the power whilst ironically wanting to be a contemporary woman with power. There's not enough power to go around for that. Can't have your cake and eat it girls.

I would fucking lose it to hear a really effeminate metrosexual go "all zese ladies just can't handle a REEL MAN"

WHATGMG? = an ex-95/5 sport-fucker that, post-wall, was tossed out of the lineup and is stuck with the 95%.

I was very curious about what her justifications are for not marrying before 30. Dug up this article:

http://english.globalrencai.com/do-not-marry-before-age-30/

She encourages them to explore during their 20s - typical "have fun" bullshit.

She seems to think that when the average woman hits her 30s she will be more attractive to higher-quality men. Um, nope.

She had two kids at 39 and 41 years old. Not feasible for the average woman.

This woman has basically taken her own life path which happened to work out, an anecdotal sample, and is now providing the worst advice possible to other women.

As I grew into my 30s, as body parts sagged but spirit soared along with my career, something funny happened in my love life. I started attracting a narrower band of men, of much higher caliber.

No kidding!

Look at the picture where she's recoiling from her desperate beta schlub husband at her own wedding.

And then she dragged him around the Chinese language talk show circuit, showing off her trophy white man real estate developer husband.

About her:

A Chinese-American former Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles

And from HIS blog on her site:

2. Joy does not cook. At all. When I read that in her 20s Joy ate a lot of ramen, I had to laugh. That’s because ramen is cheap, but also because to cook ramen, you need to know only how to boil water. By now, four years and two kids into our marriage, she’s made some progress. She makes scrambled eggs. And she makes ice cream, by mixing milk, sugar and eggs into the deluxe ice-cream making machine that our friends bought us. Does ice-cream-making count as cooking?

3. Joy is not handy around the house. Once when we were dating, she asked me to fix something that had broken in her beautiful downtown apartment. I asked if she had a toolbox. Surprisingly, she did. Unsurprisingly, it looked like a museum showpiece, 15 cm x 60 cm x 10 cm tall, a deep, velvety red, smooth and shiny, without a dent or smudge or any sign of use. Inside it contained one single solitary hammer. No screwdrivers, no wrenches, no tape measures, no nails. I wondered: “What does one do with a hammer and no nails?” Her response: “The picture-hanging kits come with the nails but not the hammer.”

Let's reverse the gender.

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: 35

  • Living with parents

  • Saying nobody wants to date him because he is { insert any excuse }

Anyone would just laugh at him and tell he's a total loser, but no. She's not a loser, she is a strong, independent woman.

Compare and contrast with

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tALpoXIkCKk

One is aired on CBS, the other is reporting by the Pulitzer Center, an independent non-mainstream news agency.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wish that Pulitzer piece was longer. Well produced (graphics could have been better though, but very minor- I used to work in television).

I love it though, the Pulitzer piece, and the end of the CBS piece puts the spotlight on who's really to blame, women and their standards. But their standards left them getting too old, that the men who CAN choose any women (the alphas at the top) said "screw this, I'm not marrying a 30 year old when I can get a hotter 22 year old instead". And now the powty 30-year old women are butthurt. Serves them right.

I just like the fact that it addresses the problems of modernizing china from a different angle. We always hear that the chinese favor men over women in terms of children, but the conclusion always seems to be some variant of OMGPATRIARCHYCHECKYOURPRIVILEGERAPIST. We almost never hear about how this will affect the rural or the poor male, or how the rise of capitalism and urbanization in china means that some of the women in china will alpha themselves out of the gene pool.

Still late, but decent for a mainstream news broadcast. She should have two or three toddlers by 27 and be ready to head back to school and/or a career if necessary.
