Disgusting that you can be jailed for outstanding debt in many Western nations. It is effectively debtor's prison and even worse is that there's no trial, nothing.

Yet these same countries claim to be 'civilised'. Yeah maybe if you're a woman then you're treated in a civilised manner.

The article is focused on the poor who are unable to afford lawyers, however there are frequent mentions of men unable to make child support payments being imprisoned. The author does not touch on that injustice.
