I'm not trying to speak as a sympathizer for the evidence you brought to the table, but I'm pretty sure the same can be said about guys too. For godsake think about all the little thuglife, Metalheads, and redneckcountryfags! I don't believe it's a one sided problem when it comes to the social decadence of the 'merica. I strongly believe the 'merica has lowered its standards when it comes to "individuality".

I agree on the issue of individuality. I mean, Paris Hilton is famous. Someone like her should not be looked up to.
I was thinking about the prevalence of thug culture earlier today and it's popularity.
Part of the reason that so many people are calling themselves "metalheads", and "gangsters" is an effort to establish an accepted identity.
For example, black people in the US.
Who do you think garners more female attention and respect from his peer group, a well spoken intellectual who avoids confrontation? Or the stereotypical "gangster"?
But, I think a large part of it is men adapting to women's preferences.
On the other hand, what helps enable people like Honey Boo Boo, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian to keep appearing within pop culture, is a lack of criticism and judgement.
I'm not saying that everybody supports their actions.
But things like the "Fat Acceptance Movement" wouldn't exist if people were allowed to shut the crap down.
I'd be very interested in hearing some more thoughts on the matter.

Comes down to feminine imperative. Anything that can feeeel like it's anti-women is shut down, shamed, etc. it ties together with the girls movement of the late nineties and everyone said men needed to get in touch with their feminine side and all that crap.

Last night I was out for a run and I saw two people walking dogs passing eachother. One dog was considerably bigger than the other- but they both tugged at their leashes, barking frantically at eachother. There was truly only going to be one winner if their owners let go.. yet both instinctively went for each other without thinking.
Just a thought.

I'm still of the mind that these deviations within individuality come from the competition for women.
It's no surprise that women have been making efforts to become more masculine with their self image. I mean maybe they don't want to look like men but after seeing the one with "skrillex" hair dyed green and piercings all over her face. I'm thinking looking masculine is an effort and maybe not the goal. So my question is.
In your opinion, what do you think has helped cause these deviations in individuality? Is it that people always wanted to stray this far from the norm, and were just more socially accepting of it now? What if the idea of a "fad" is being applied to behavior as well?
I know it's not just one factor, so I want to hear your ideas on this.

Depends on the age of the woman whether they're more interested in an alpha or provider.
It's no surprise that the closet to the wall a woman gets the more desperate she will become to snag a provider. Maybe not to have "his" children, but to at least have him around when she has an alphas kids.
So yeah, I don't disagree that mainstream sitcoms and reality television do not represent all of society.
I can understand watching reality TV, like you're watching a trainwreck, but that can't be the only reason why this is so prevalent, at least within western culture.
Maybe these people like Paris Hilton would've been popular in the 50's, if they had as many outlets for entertainment as we do.
I am of the opinion that the biggest factor is a slow decay of the culture though.

I'd argue that Paris Hilton was famous for being born into a rich family and for having a sex tape. And that Marilyn had a modicum of talent along with her undesirable traits.
But that's just pulling straws.
So maybe your right.

Care to go into more detail? That is a pretty vague imo. personally I think it has more to do with anti-intellectualism.

Sorry but all those pictures are taken out of context. Your making assumptions that people in past decades lived some sort of utopian life of class and free spirit and everyone today is a fat mess. In either case you can't let a picture speak for all.
