Another random musing.

I think in the beginning, the hunter-gatherer days, there were really just two roles for men, Warriors and Priests.

Warriors' role was obvious. They were there to protect the tribe from outsiders and threats in a violent, turbulent time when humanity was little more than a particularly complex-tool using primate species. These would be men in their adolescence to adulthood, dropping off around middle age with a few outliers as they pass their physical, and sexual peak. They would have been hunters as well, responsible for most of the tribe's expansion and advancement.

The Priests would have a more inwardly focused role, organizing community and maintaining order among the tribe. They could have been older ex-Warriors, retired forcibly due to an injury. Maybe they believed in non-violence as an ethos, tying in with some sort of primitive, animistic belief. Or maybe they were just piss-poor at fighting. For whatever reason, in pre-literate times they would be responsible for the tribe's history, things like funerary rites and other social conventions to keep the tribe strong and unified without the immediate danger of an outward threat.

In any respect, Warriors would have to protect the tribe from war and predation in wartime, and Priests would have to deal with famine, disease and shortages in peacetime. Rule by Priests in wartime could mean the extinction of a tribe at the hands of a more warlike foe (see the Moriori's extirpation at the hands of the Maori in what's now New Zealand, or the failure of appeasement pre-WWII, or unsuccessful Union general George McClellan's risk-averse leadership style leading to his dismissal by Lincoln). Likewise, rule by Warriors in peacetime could lead to an unnecessarily harsh, repressive police state. Either outcome would bring about the threat of the tribe's extinction.

The ideal man, then, would be a synthesis of Warrior and Priest traits. Warrior with Priestly aspects in wartime and Priest with Warrior aspects in peacetime. Roman military officers, for example, were expected to have a solid education in history and philosophy as well as tactics. Both roles for men came with the duties and responsibilities of a leadership position. Today, however, things are so vastly different that we can hardly be expected to live up to our genetic programming. Young men who aspire to be Warriors and go kick the rotting teeth out of an ISIS terrorist's jaw are instead shuffled into a byzantine military bureaucracy. Aspiring Priests have to search for meaning in a culture inundated with meaningless drivel, vapid celebrity-worship and tabloid media so mind-numbingly stupid the Orwellian term "prolefeed" seems generous. All set against a backdrop of strident, power-hungry women and beta enablers pushing an increasingly anti-male, heterophobic, valueless agenda with a vitriolic militancy.

Is the RP all we have left to believe in? Empiricism - facts, not faith; a sense of integrity and honesty with ourselves rather than regurgitating the lies we've been force-fed (and outright threatened against disbelieving under the guises of "political correctness"/"social justice"). What do we have for ourselves, other than "fuck bitches, get money" - or is that all there is?
