Disclaimer: not a Muslim.
So in my experience with Reddit, there are a many pro/anti circumcision "groups" lurking around subs like r / unpopularopinion, with either very popular, misinformation, or truly unpopular scientifically accurate info regarding circumcision. something that really startled me was that many feminist are avidly pro male circumcision, but are typically against female circumcision. unlike male circumcision, what i fond out through long hours of personal research was extremely disturbing. opposing the popular male circumcision good, female circumcision bad, were a few, well written research articles that detailed the exact benefits of [what we would consider] first world female circumcision. now due to the massive amount of propaganda on the internet that is being pushed forward due to monetary incentives, there are about a handful of scientifically accurate writings on the benefit of female circumcision.
The other topic i want to bring forward is the fact that if feminist want to be "equal" they need to accept that infant female circumcision is going to have to be normalized like male circumcision. there are about 310,000 Muslims girls that would typically go through a "right of passage" ritual in the US, most likely involving the removal of the clitoris and possibly the inner/outer labia [or both] being removed. this seems like a huge number, but in comparison, about 85% of males in the us are circumcised. the circumcision procedure is typically done within days of birth, and without pain medication [depending on the age of the recipient]. now i am aware that many female circumlocutions occur between the ages of 5-11, but there is no legitimate reason that a religious Muslim family should not be able to have their daughter circumcised at a local hospital.
in closing, it disturbs me that children [both male and female] are allowed to go through the mutilation process of surgical transition, but a medical procedure that has both religious, and medical benefits, is still banned in many 1st world countries that allow gender transition. please do your own research, go above and beyond, and dont use google or you wont go anywhere. there is a lot of propaganda regarding this topic, so dont get stuck on misinformation and buzzwords like FGM. FGM and female circumcision are two separate things. the only difference is the means, not the end.
