Good evening gentlemen.
Right to the point: I failed my goals for this November. I resolved to quit masturbating, quit smoking pot, and to greatly reduce watching Netflix et al.
I won't bore you with the details. My failures were minor, but significant. I was unable to completely resist my temptations. Here's why any of this matters:
I'm doing it again next month. And again after that if I can't get it right. I'll do it because this month has been the most productive month I've ever had. Over the past 3 weeks, I've made more progress in my goals than ever before. I started writing every day, working out more often, and I even have started eating much healthier. These aren't changes I specifically made at the start of the month, but are rather a trickle-down result of my conscious efforts to better myself.
No Nothing November is about becoming the master of your sins. When it's over, you don't have to be abstinent from weed for the rest of your life. You don't have to quit torturing puppies in your free time; the objective is for these things to be an indulgence rather than a habit. Have your cake and eat it too, friends.
The purpose of this post, besides reminding you how great it feels to make positive changes in your life, is this: failure is formative. We're men. We fuck up sometimes. We say stupid shit, we put our dicks where the don't belong, and we fight ourselves more than we fight back. You don't have to beat yourself up over your mistakes. You're a big boy, you made a decision, and you made a mess for yourself. Every mistake you make is an opportunity to get better. Clean up the shit in your pants and stop eating at that Mexican restaurant with the too-good-tacos and the busty waitress that calls you Papì. metaphor
