I've heard conflicting things. On one hand, I've heard that autistic/Asperger's people have "hyper-masculine" personalities and that their tendency towards extreme attention to detail is a facet of this.

On the other hand, I've heard that it's actually women who are detail oriented, and this makes sense to me because things like an eye for what's fashionable and a greater desire for one's physical environment to be neat and orderly implies a greater attention to detail. Also the fact that women tend to have better near-sighted vision while men tend to have better far-sighted vision, it makes sense that men would be the "generalist" big picture thinkers while women would focus more on specifics.

Who in your experience is more likely to be a big picture thinker and who's more likely to be about details - men or women?
