I've been wanting to make this post for the last week or so and just now have the time to sit down and do it, but as a bit of a disclaimer it is not relevant to or intended to help game or getting laid, at least not in any direct sense.
I am 22 and I have recently been promoted to a management position. It is not the first time I have been in a leadership position and I feel comfortable taking on the responsibility. However, it is the first time I have been in a leadership position while heading people that are much older than me and or more experienced than me with the job.
With this the dynamics have changed - I am placed in a spot where I am not necessarily "The best", or inherently looked up to because of age or experience or what have you. So it is quite different than experiences I've had leading in the past in which my group was pretty much within the same peer set.
For the first week or so as I was thrown into the fray and learning the in and outs of my new responsibilities I could only focus on essentially maintaining frame and keeping my men on task. However, as I found out the experience and skill sets my men had far exceeded my own in a lot of aspects - inwardly, I could not help but question why in the fuck I was placed in a position over them (surely they were asking the same). As time went on I found out.
It is because of the pill.
Being in this position has offered up a brand new perspective. To put it simply, character matters. The word character probably gets watered down because of how often it gets thrown around through our developmental years and what not - but at the core of everything involving how people perceive you and what they believe they can expect from you is character and attitude.
These men I am working with have a lot more experience than me in a lot of areas involving the job, but they each have shitty character traits - one being the most common and prevalent amongst them and the one that I can say with certainty is not something that belongs to me.
The greatest sin a man can commit is becoming weak when others depend on their strength.
Apply this now. As men, the world is expecting that we can be strong. That is just how it is. I am not going to digress into double standards and the subtle prejudices the world holds towards men, but I am just going to assume that you can agree that they exist. The world expects men to be strong. Simply.
When you allow yourself to become weak during times that call for some type of strength you are betraying yourself and it is simply going to be viewed as despicable to anyone that witnesses it.
If you can hold onto this it will drastically improve your how people perceive your character and attitude.
Within the scope of the workplace - the ones who complain, the ones who are reluctant to take on new tasks, the ones who throw their hands in the air when things seem overwhelming either due to additional responsibilities or being short handed or what have you, these are the ones that are succumbing to themselves and allowing themselves to become weak in the face adversity.
It is highly evident to everyone around them. People may not be sensitive enough to recognize it on a conscious level but it is always recognized.
The proper mindset to own is to feel excitement in the face of something overwhelming. Never feel reluctance to take on a challenge. It is simply an opportunity to demonstrate to everyone around you your robust testicular fortitude.
The moment you complain you show weakness. You show fear and insecurity and uncertainty within yourself. It is a broadcast to everyone around you that you do not think you are up to it.
Obviously, don't let people run you around and set you up for failure. Don't let people take advantage of you simply because you are willing to work harder than them. Be discerning, but do not be reluctant.
The men that I work with, some nearly 50 years old have thrown some of the biggest pussy fits I have ever seen. That's what has spurred this post along. That's the most overwhelming thing that I have had to deal with to tell you the truth. Seeing matured men moaning and complaining like little beta pricks because workload has slightly increased or we were slightly short handed, and just trying to wash their hands of the entire situation, trying to escape, because it became slightly harder - that is what impacted me more than anything.
Look - if you've been here for any amount of time, you know that men are the romanticists. And you know by now that love is not one of the things that should be romanticized. Let me tell you what you should romanticize if anything at all. Romanticize strength, pride, vigor, ferocity, heat, and similar.
Those are the things that are going to set you apart from other men. Those are things that have an outward effect on your character and can be perceived making you "different". It doesn't really matter in what situation you are in, work, a relationship, a gym, a fucking war, wherever you are - those are the characteristics of man.
Even though my guys have been in the workplace longer than me, and are much better than me at certain things pertaining to the job - none of them show any signs of being men.
It's women and children on the life boats first, right? That's just how it is. Stay on the ship, or become a woman or a child - that is just the nature of things now.
Stay on the ship and demonstrate to the world around you that you will fix the ship or die trying because that is simply what the world expects, and that is probably what it will always expect.
There is a choice you can make here.
You can take pride in this burden, or you can berate the women and children as they float away to safety.
