Yeah clinginess is unattractive, yeah getting such attention is exciting at first. Then when you grow up you realize it's not fun, it's not validating. It's infatuation, which isn't even really about the subject if said infatuation. If girls don't realize this eventually, well, I'd say that's a lack of self awareness.

So basically, they think that Oneitis is not appealing, but enjoy the attention they get from it and find it horrible advice to go the other way and treat them like dirt.

But I'm not telling you something you don't already know. :P

EDIT: Though to be fair, the general consensus amongst the girls there is kind of wavy. I've heard of the belief in "many soulmates" before from friends as an example. Though I'd say it's more like hedging your bets.
