Pretty much everyone that has read the sidebar knows what preselection means in the dating realm; you show up with a high value woman on your arm and all the women in the joint suddenly want you.

What most people don't realize is that his applies in the business world as well. I'm a senior in college in a STEM major and I'll graduate in May, so I started my job search back in August. I eventually landed an interview with one of my top companies and really made a great impression on them and got a spectacular job offer. How do I know this? My professor told me. This professor is a very technically gifted man, but beyond that also an incredible entrepreneur, making him a millionaire in the process. He teaches for fun now...and to cherry pick the best students from my major.

He got a call from the company that I interviewed with and they asked my professor about me. The company representative explained that they gave me a high pressure, unwinnable task to see how I'd handle failure and I not only beat the task but did so with pure tenacity (much like in the new Star Trek movie in the officer training simulation). They told my professor "he's like a bulldog, we can't stop this guy. He just won't stop".

I was always one of my professor's favorites because we share many of the same Ayn Rand Objectivist views. However, this changed everything. He one upped the offer I got from the other company in terms of salary and many other aspects and invited me to work in his start up company (which is working on some very disruptive technology).

The point of this story is that without that offer, I might not have received this better offer from my professor. Preselection is much more pronounced in the dating realm but it also occurs in business and a lot of other realms too. Always be trying to improve your position whether it be in your career, dating life, hobbies, or fitness gentlemen.
