I think it was fairly necessary given the circumstances but it still feels much more like a "fuck you" to Reddit staff as opposed to a move made for the sole purpose of allowing other admins/mods to regroup and figure out what to do going forward.

Still, I have no idea how anyone operating a business - because that's what this is - could possibly think it logical to abruptly dismiss a person who was arguably an integral part of helping both improve and maintain company standards. And with zero warning and what appears to be little, if any forethought.

I'm not sure what's going on with the upper levels of Reddit staff but they're doing a very good job of ensuring this site goes down in flames in short order.

I think this is the point yes. As to your other points it does not seem like the right way to run a business does it? Very weird.

I don't understand how the firing of Victoria affects the science subreddit. How was she a vital part of their subreddit functioning properly?

Since various subreddits (like /r/science) also do AMAs from prominent figures, Victoria played a role in organizing those as well.

How was she a vital part of their subreddit functioning properly?

Coaching celebs through the AMA process/Reddit functions, maintaining standards for proper verification, and apparently even typing up the dictated responses. Basically, she was the point of contact between reddit mods and celebrity PR people and her being fired left a lot of mods in limbo and without any way to get into touch with guests for upcoming AMAs.

She was part of the AMA process which science had a lot of apparently.

My thoughts are what they always have been about reddit--they don't have a business. They took a $50m placement 9 months ago and I bet they are tearing through it. What we are witnessing now are classic signs of an executive staff trying to pretty themselves up for a buyout or a long-shot new placement, including random and seemingly pointless terminations.

Pop some corn.

Like the lambs to the slaughter.
