Hey so basically I started this job as a waiter at a popular restaurant/pub in my area straight out of school. its a fun job with good employees and customers and the hours are flexible. I have worked at the place during my whole Uni degree and graduated last year which im proud of straight out of school. My passion is tennis and i currently compete at a professional amateur level in my country and overseas. My coach recently had a talk with me and said that if i really wanted to give being a pro a real try that now is the best time as you're only young for so long and corporate jobs ect are always going to be there. I agreed with him and have started training and competing full time. The plan is to do this for 3 years and then at 25, reassess my goals and abilities and decide weather to keep going or move onto another job/career. Because travailing to compete is expensive and i only make so much money from pro amature tennis ATM my part time job is really helpful in helping me come up with the money while still being able to train full time. my problem is whenever i see people from school or other places at the restaurant/pub they always act surprised and say things like "oh you still work here" in a almost condescending tone even though they're still at uni or working for their parents. I dont plan to work their forever and i know its a dead end job but I feel like people think im stupid for working at the same low level job for 5 years. Is it ok to keep working their as long as its convenient or should i have i been there too long and should start trying to look for a different and better job?
