With the new year around the corner, I'm looking for new things to do. One of them is toastmasters.

I have a negative opinion of the organization, but want to believe in it (because I love self improvement.)

MY main beef is that two of my friends have invested a lot of time in the organization (one even became a president). They both went in as people with average speaking skills. Unfortunately, I'd say that they aren't any better public speakers. I didn't even notice any difference. When I ask them if they thought they improved a lot...they pause and think for a bit and give a lukewarm answer.

Now actually giving a toast at a wedding or a presentation at work...that's different but that's not really applicable to regular everyday life.

I think it can help a hardcase newbie guy...but for the average guy?
