I've been having trouble with this situation. Lately I've been using this specific opener when approaching girls at the mall and on the street, where I just go up to them and "Have you read any good books lately?" The opener is good for getting the conversation going, and I've gotten dates from using the opener before, but of course, there are times when a woman will just tell me no, she hasn't.
I can read women's body language pretty well, and I can tell the difference between when one simply doesn't read much vs when one is lying to try and get out of a conversation. In the latter case, I don't want to just leave it there. I want to try and salvage the pickup if I can, or if I can't, at least say something cheeky in response to her "no".
Otherwise I feel like I'm giving up too easily. If I only limit myself to girls who show interest right away then I don't feel like I did anything. I don't really feel like I picked the girl up, since she was already gonna be interested in me.
So during the times when a woman says no to my initial question, where do I go from there, in terms of what I can say? Specifics?
