I am a sophomore in college studying computer engineering with plans to focus on the computer science side of things.
I'm taking a course now where we are being introduced to topics such as writing a resume, what it is like being an engineer (writing documents and what not), etc.
The whole scenario of me "selling myself" via an elevator pitch, etc. all seems dishonest to me. I know I have good work habits, good social skills (exceptional when you compare me to the average engineer I would say), and overall a good vibe. I can't rationalize the fake smiling shit, if you catch my drift.
I have a feeling that I am looking at all of this wrong, and that is where I ask for a better perspective in regard to the process of getting an internship via "selling yourself" / or life in the corportate in general.
I would prefer to have a genuine conversation with the recruiter wherein he ask me certain questions and I answer them as I see fit instead of having shit so structured. I want to operate as I am and not as some robot, such as how some guy would act who has read all the books on girls but has never spoken to one vs the guy who knows none of that script and does well because he is who is he.
I believe I am perceiving this wrong so I ask for guidance/insight into this whole process.
I have the confidence that I will do well in an interview because I am most importantly true to myself, and I know myself to be a good person and as a result, a good employee; I work hard, can socialize with people, etc., but I am not looking forward to such politics in getting there with my current perception of how it will be. I don't like politicking; I want to act as a human and none of that dressed up shit.
Is this all just a process to get my foot in the door and then showcase my personality in comparison to everyone else?
** I understand that as a member of society, I must conform to the way we do certain things until I get my own, and then I do whatever I like with it, but I have a feeling that there must be another way out of putting on a script to get a job/internship. Long term I plan to have my own so I can show up to work butt fuck naked if I want to, but that is not my reality as of January 17, 2020.
** I will begin the process of re-reading CorporateLand by u/VasiliyZaitze as well
