I got the opposite problem.

My ex is now in a relationship with a retired man in his 60's, he looks old, moves slowly, has a beer gut, old skin, thinning hair and glasses. The kicker: He isn't even rich!

Look, you all might get all the "hypergamy" and "awalt" terms thrown around. And to an extent, use of those is justified. However:

Let's disregard all the social aspects and requirements of relationships and get to their roots - i.e biological roots. When it comes to sexual relationships there are still very strict gender roles defined by the biology of the sexes: Childbearing (women) and Family Provider/Protector (men). Women and Men are optimized for the above roles respectively, and 95% of people will at least try to fulfill these roles to their best, if nothing else.

Point 1: Female prime years (aka childbearing years, her biolgical role in the relationship) are quite short relative to the avg. life expectancy. Women have a timeframe constraint of 10-15 years (16-30 age range), past which they lose fertility rapidly and menopause doesn't help the looks either. In other words, she has to complete that mission within timer bounds, otherwise, game over. Men's prime years (aka productive years) can last for over 30 years (16-50 age range).

Point 2: As a direct consequence of the above strict time limits for women, it is OPENLY DISADVANTAGEOUS FOR HER ROLE to wait until you as a man make a bank WHEN THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS (i.e. men with more resources) AVAILABLE HERE AND NOW. It benefits her, and her offspring far more than sticking with you - wasting her biological fertility clock in process and living in an uncertainty of "Will he make bank or stay relatively broke till my menopause?". Hence, she chooses the more resourceful man.

When it comes to a reproductive success, she is just as entitled to this kind of reasoning as a man who doesn't go for women over 30 (28, 25, whatever) over fertility and child health concerns. Remember, THIS IS ONLY PURELY BIOLOGICAL/REPRODUCTIVE SUCCESS SIDE.

When you throw in the social factors - prestige, quality of life, potential for self-realization, it all becomes increasingly convoluted, but the woman's premise remains the same: short timeframes, higher responsibility (harder to run away from the child that is inside your belly). You cannot blame women for choosing against less well-to-do candidates in such an environment. After all, all genders strive to achieve better outcomes and lower risks, relationships or not. Whether or not the choice was ethical and/or logical on the woman's side (rich men have a lot of other, better options too) remains to be seen.
