She's doesn't understand that a big part of the appeal of having a wife and kids is having authority over them. If your wife is happy and your kids are well mannered and smart, it means you, as a man, did a good job and your community will give you the respect of a man that takes care of and governs his family properly. The reason so many men like to go overseas to be with women is because they don't have money or options so they have to actually put in the effort. And since the western currency is more valuable, a 60k a year man can go to most countries and live like a baller and the women worship him for it (I know this from experience), but as soon as they come to America, they get options and turn into a normal western woman.

Marriage only worked in the past because women didn't have options and laws that benefit them. This is why Marriage rates are in a nose dive. Women don't know how to behave like wives unless the laws and society forces them to.

Her intention probably was to state that it doesn't matter that marriages lasted longer, because it was at the expenses of women independence.

However, she doesn't understand that she is making a point against feminism, not in favour of it. In fact, if you consider the statistics that say that women were happier in that era and are a lot less happy today, it becomes clear that having too much freedom and being left on their own, despite what feminists say, isn't good for their long term happiness.

Indeed, after the initial thrill of unlimited freedom, what makes women unhappy on the long run is that they're almost always uncapable of good long term choices, and a lot of them invariably end up alone, perhaps with a bank account, but with no other family than their cats.

Why do feminists want to get married? It's a "construct of the patriarchy" after all. There must be some kind of benefit that marriage brings to women...but how could that be when feminists say that marriage benefits men more? Hmmm
