As far as the temperance movement goes, wouldn't say necessarily specifically about taverns/male spaces. Women have always (instinctively/sub-consciously) worked to remove anything that gives men pleasure, which they do not control (e.g. as opposed to their bodies). Prostitution is another good example. That is a good point. Crushing will and completing control is partly accomplished by destroying anything that men enjoy. In the end, it's all about control.
