The more I see and hear from Chris the more I like him.

A lot has been written about actors in general being the "object". They objectify themselves by being on screen for all to see, thereby taking a passive role, while we take on the active role by watching them. The active/passive idea is particularly ironic when you think of big, muscular men like Arnold as being in the object/passive role.

[–]jeffwingersballs1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Funny, I would have thought it be the opposite. The actor is taking the active role by "acting". Yeah, he's got to put himself out, but so what? The audience are the passive ones. They have to sit back and live variously through the movie's world which the actors help create.

Yeah, we studied this phenomenon in a critical theory class I took. One of the books that talked about this was called "The Sublime Object of Ideology". The other was "Taking It Like a Man: White Masculinity, Masochism, and Contemporary American Culture". It really questions how we see masculinity, the role it plays, and how very, very ironic it can be.

Well, you just implicated yourself when you said you were studying critical theory. :P

Objectification is a ridiculous feminist concept.

Imagine if males had a Magic Mike, or acted the way middle aged moms did about the young actors in Twilight.

He got in ridiculous shape ever since Guardians, and he has made statements about how much better he feels now then when he rocked the "dad bod". Interestingly, he has said that his wife told him she liked him better the way he was before...

Too bad he's already got a kid with her, he's gonna get divorce raped hard one of these days. He's married to outspoken and ugly media feminist Amy Schumaker.

Edit: He is married to Anna Farris, who is not a feminist and still smoking despite being a bit older. Amy S. is still a fugly bitch though.

He's married to Anna Faris but she's 3 years older than him.

I think it's Anna Faris he's married to. Girl from scary movie series
