I have an LTR of roughly 10 months. Today, her and I were sitting in my car talking when the subject of her family comes up. As a general disclaimer, I am a joker around all people until I am alone.

She is Eastern European, and I have jokingly told her in the past that her ethnicity is full of idiots; this isn't a big deal to her and I said it in the context of a joke, to which I'm sure she understood. She then tells her family (of whom I am close with) that I "hate Eastern Europeans". I left a hickey on her neck (but low enough so that any shirt will cover it) and her 11 year old brother notices and asks her about it to which she responds that I hit her. To top off me teasing her, I made fun of her church (that she hates) a while ago for not looking anything at all like a traditional church (of which I grew up in).

She tells me all of this and I don't take any of it seriously and I start joking around because I know her family is fairly laid back (i.e. they know if I hated Eastern Europeans I wouldn't be with her or close to them, and that any idiot can tell that it's a hickey and not a beating mark on her neck).

I jokingly tell her that her church (which has no crosses, portraits of Christ, etc.) is actually a mafia front and that her father is going to send people after me if she keeps telling her family this bullshit.

She immediately breaks down into tears and starts crying and spewing gibberish that I can't really understand; mentions something along the lines of "if you keep making jokes I'm going to have to breakup with you". I'm stunned, she has never cried in front of me before in this relationship. I immediately think she's trying to manipulate me, try setting some bullshit boundary or something. I promptly drop her off at her house and it's been a few hours of no contact.
