This post falls more into the self-improvement/life goals of TRP rather than sexual strategy, but y’all give good advice (generally).

My skip-level manager just pulled me aside and asked if I wanted to take on a higher level role in 2 weeks. Speaking candidly, the role is in brand relationships and my KPIs would be sales/profitability/haggling for contracts & money. It is not something I’m interested in in the slightest beyond the level change (and likely increase in salary), but I have some experience in it and would probably be fine workwise. pros: higher level, more money, stay on a team where I have a lot of weight and with a manger who knows I do good work cons: work life balance is atrocious, beholden to outside clients who are “moody”, the previous guy is proactively leaving the role, it would mean staying on a team where I’m one of the most tenured employees (limited room for growth?)

I currently do digital marketing, and get a number of cool projects (exploratory marketing tests that I own). I’m looking at leveraging my experience so far to get into PM roles and continue owning projects/products. I’ve done good work so far, but it’s not certain I can get to the next level immediately (I am taking interviews, though it may take 6 months) pros: I genuinely enjoy 40% of my work, I can drive the majority of my work, work life balance is good outside of peak periods, I’ve got my current managers explicit trust cons: not currently growing/looking to get to the next level, current manager is probably leaving soon and my current freedom could change

Im balancing what I want to do vs a quicker path up the ladder. I’m thinking about $$, quality of life/work life balance, whether I’m stagnating (by staying in my current role or by taking the new one that’s on the same team), and the type of work itself. Is there any other way to be thinking about this?

Would also appreciate some insight from the older guys on career paths (I’ve read the corporate blog on the sidebar).
