In addition to this your view is eurocentric and implies certain things which is why you're getting down voted.
The husband in a divorce got the house, the children and the assets.
It's not that he got them, he kept the house he bought and the woman didn't get his money, as such he would be expected to raise the children.
A man could select a woman of his choosing and if she accepted it essentially granted ownership of that woman to the man.The divorced female would become an Old Maid who would be poor and despised by the community. In the worse case she would be reduced to prostitution.
This is all crock, it just screams I hate women, or I had a bad marriage, it's made from a mismatch of true stories and rumours.
Marriage 1.0 was about coming together as a family and uniting two clans, nothing to do with patriarchy, patriarchy came about as circumstance because men lead and women follow.

So what if a woman was genuinely abused and mistreated in marriage 1.0? What were her options to seek justice? Ownership of another human being? What are we a bunch of fucking slave traders? Some, but not the majority of people on this sub, deeply hate women as a result of their own repeated failures.
