For context, I was a late bloomer and always placed a high value on relationships/marriage. For that reason, I’ve simply chosen not to fall into relationship opportunities I’ve had— I knew myself well, and they simply were not right. College and business school were a blur of depression and I spent a lot of time focusing on my studies and on self-improvement. In fact, I haven’t ever had a boyfriend. Now I’m 26, conventionally attractive, emotionally even keeled, very upwardly mobile and debt-free thanks to the nest egg of accomplishment and tough inner work that I put together. I have also seen this time as an investment in the material and financial well-being of my future family, and in opportunities to work from home if needed.
Also: an awkward first time experience, and one encounter with an older guy I had feelings for = the sum of my sexual experience.
How does one explain this to a man without setting off many red flags? Seeing as this is not a “normal” narrative for most people. Anxiety was not a factor, extreme pickiness was not a factor, asexuality was not a factor. I’m just very rational. I have relied on realism and listened to my intuition in different situations.
Although my story is very matter-of-fact, it has garnered shocked/slightly disappointed reactions from girlfriends.
Taking a deep breath and getting on Bumble next month. I hear good things.
