Here's the thing. For women, and modern women in particular, everything had to be celebrated in pompous style. And I don't have kids but I would be stoked if I found out I was having my first kid. My fifth though, I would still be happy, but by then it's more of a routine. And bear in mind I come from an extended family where 7 or 8 children was pretty much par for the course. So this reaction would be normal not just on men, but even on women. Heck, I will bet even women would have had the same reaction as the gentleman in the story, especially since they're the ones having to go through the tribulations of pregnancy and childbirth AGAIN for like the seventh or eight time.

Which is why for modern women they find this puzzling or even offensive. Because to them everything is an accomplishment to be celebrated. For instance, baby showers. A funny detail, my mother actually hates baby showers to the point that she would refuse to go to her own grandkids' showers. At first I thought she was just being an asshole and a bitch, but then I went to a few and then I saw why she hated them. Because it's mostly centered not even around the baby but around the woman. Which is probably the case in this story. The woman here wanted hubby to celebrate HER. Who knows, perhaps she got pregnant on purpose. Which is why in this case, it doesn't hurt to consider a vasectomy.
